In this beautifully written story, you are brought onto a rollercoaster of emotions (as in you are forced to read while riding a rollercoaster that only goes one direction: down). Split into three different perspectives, follow Xiao, Childe, and Hu Tao in a complicated plot about love and death (lots of it). You will soon find yourself pondering your life decisions as you read the psychological parts, and wiping emotional tears as you read through the entire book (and this is most certainly not because you are on a rollercoaster heading straight towards the concrete ground).

Xiao, a Yaksha who's brothers all died, has head cancer and a severe case of depression with potential side effects of death. He falls in love with someone in his cancer support group, Zhongli, who has nose cancer. But then he finds out that his true love all along has been Patrick, the group leader, who has breathing cancer. Sadly, Patrick dies after his oxygen tank is stolen by Hu Tao, and Xiao joins him in heaven where they finally watch the heartbreaking documentary that they never got to watch, The Plant Teacher. Hu Tao is the 77th director of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. She is on the lookout for new clients, when she realizes how perfect Zhongli is. She then sneaks into the cancer support group, looking for a chance to make Zhongli a client, when she is spotted by Xiao, who mistakes her as another competitor for Zhongli's love. Hu Tao then decides to expand her plan, and make everyone in the cancer support group her clients, starting with Patrick. Will she succeed?
